Liverpool step up their chase for Scottish youngster

The Scotland u21 Player has attracted interest from clubs within top divisions.

Aberdeen continue to demand £10 million for their talented youngster despite interest from top European clubs. The 18 year old has become an integral player for the ‘dons’ over the past season, racking up 33 appearances and winning the ‘SFWA Young Player of the Year’ award.

Ramsay had been under transfer speculation when Aberdeen rejected a bid from Serie A outfit, Bologna, for a £830,000 loan offer with an obligation to buy for £3.3 million.

Liverpool had been pushing for a deal estimated to be £4 million plus £2 million in add-ons, which would almost double the dons record transfer fee of £3 million, received for Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna in 2020.

Scottish teams have often let their top talents leave for little compensation, however, in recent years both Rangers and Celtic have sold their full-backs for £16 million and £25 million respectively. With the former being 20 year old Nathan Patterson, who himself had only racked up 27 appearances in all competitions for Rangers while being the understudy to James Tavernier.

Aberdeen have been clear in their demands to Liverpool, holding out for £5 million plus an expected £5 million in add-ons. Having just confirmed the £85 million transfer for Darwin Nunez, they have made it clear that there is money to spend and the dons won’t be taken advantage of.

Despite an underwhelming campaign in the Scottish Premiership for Aberdeen, finishing 10th, Ramsay was a beacon throughout. There is no surprise that interest has been sparked around Ramsay with manager, Jim Goodwin, considering him one of the best young full-backs in the world.

Liverpool will aim to develop the youngster into a rival for Trent Alexander-Arnold over the coming seasons but, before that can come to fruition, they will have to meet Aberdeen's price-tag.
